Vívidos / Vividos Exhibition Caguas Art Museum of Puerto Rico.

Vívidos / Vividos: 9 proposals depicting real and intimate events, objects of everyday life, existential struggles and shared memories. This exhibition is a recollection of autobiographical pieces vividly recreating the creative and existential introspections in the life experience of each artist.

Vívidos / Vividos are projects created from the irreverence and intimacy of using the body in creative actions, such as the videos and photography of Lilliam Nieves and Angelí Velez, in the photography of Christto Sanz and in Catherine Matos Olivo autobiographical book. The strategies of using inanimate objects, such as Aaron Salabarrías photography. The focus on personal and impersonal memories which are  assumed as collective, such as the drawings of Edra Soto and the art books of Sofia Cáceres. The existential searching of meaning in the prints and embroideries of Karla Cott and in the sculptures of Annex Burgos.

Art is oneself. Although one comes with a historical legacy and you can use, I believe that art not be part of that which is not genuine, that is not inside, it’s actually another representation of a pseudo-reality as it can be Mickey Mouse “- quote from the artist Rosa Irigoyen, 1997 in Routt Eneide Gomez interview.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab. DOHA QATAR 2011.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab showcases Cai’s diverse body of work, ranging from his signature gunpowder drawings to large-scale site-specific installations and the explosion event of Black Ceremony. Cai Guo-Qiang’s biggest exhibition since I Want To Believe at the Guggenheim Museum in 2008, Saraab (“mirage”) will feature more than fifty works, including sixteen newly commissioned pieces, thirty recent works and nine documentary videos.

Cai Guo-Qiang was born in 1957 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China, and was trained in stage design at the Shanghai Theater Academy. His work has since crossed multiple mediums within art, including drawing, installation, video and performance art.

While living in Japan from 1986 to 1995, he explored the properties of gunpowder in his drawings, an inquiry that eventually led to his experimentation with explosives on a massive scale and to the development of his signature explosion events. Drawing upon Eastern philosophy and contemporary social issues as a conceptual basis, these projects and events aim to establish an exchange between viewers and the larger universe around them, utilizing a site-specific approach to culture and history.

The Chapter of my Skin

Es una serie  de fotografías que explora los estados de la mente, su medida de formar o demoler al sujeto. A manera de  autorretrato con  ingenio de una fabula pretendo presentar  vivencias o reflexiones transformadas en imágenes surreales que van de lo tierno a lo bestial; como el monstruo que duerme en un cuento de ficción , apunto de despertar. La serie incluye fotografías como:

“The Dinner”, una pieza fotográfica, donde trato de representar los diálogos o monólogos que se generan en mi imaginación; entre las diferentes mentes, la mente analítica o la consciente, la mente decodificadora, la mente impulsiva, la mente inconsciente y la somática que represento en los diferentes yo que aparecen en esta fotografía . Todas mis mentes han planeado una cena para devorar el plato principal en una misma mesa, que será mi cerebro símbolo de la materia existente del cuerpo, poder de construcción o destrucción del ser humano.Es en la mesa donde se generan todo tipo de discursos, discusiones y posturas acerca del sujeto y su consciencia; Pienso luego existo.

Por otra parte el vestido de látex pretende simbolizar un cuerpo desnudo ficticio sobre  un cuerpo vestido real, aludiendo al disfraz y creando un juego de oposiciones o contradicción ilógicas como la vida misma. Por otra parte interesa presento lo bello el cuerpo, más que nada su interior en la profundidad sus intestinos representados en formas orgánicas pulcras. “The operation” presenta  el acto de extracción, herir o sacar todas las mentes que han consumido a la original en aquella cena de disfraces donde se debatían ideas existenciales y procesos de creación, culminando con el acenso del cuerpo como símbolo de iluminación o de alguna idea pura.( The information is in the air).

TWO EMERGING ARTISTS THAT COME FROM DISTINCT BACKGROUNDS HAVE SET THE STAGE FOR GREAT WORKS TO COME AHEAD AS THEY HAVE THEIR EYE SET ON THE MIDDLE EAST REGION.

HAVING LIVED IN EUROPE AND THE AMERICAS FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS THE EMERGING DUO HAVE COME TO THE MIDDLE EAST FOR A CHANGE IN THEIR ARTISTIC CAREERS.

WE HAVE ASKED THE EMERGING ARTIST WHAT IT IS EXACTLY THAT BROUGHT THEM TO THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE WORD OF THAT THAT DOMINATED BY BOTH ARTISTS WAS INSPIRATION.

WHAT WERE THE UNDERLYING REASON FOR CHOOSING THE MIDDLE EAST AS YOUR NEXT BASE LOCATION?

ANDREW: THE MIDDLE EAST IS FULL OF OPPORTUNITY AND WITH THAT INSPIRATION FOR CHANGE IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE SOCIETY AND THAT WILL BE HEAVILY DETAILED IN MY NEXT PROJECT THAT IS BASED ON THE LOCAL CULTURE IN QATAR.

WHAT IS YOUR ART MOSTLY BASED UPON?

CHRISTTO: MY NEW ART WILL BE A REPRESENTATION OF THE ARABIC CULTURE AND HOW IT IS PERCEIVED BY THE WESTERN WORLD AND THE MISCONCEPTION OF WHAT THEIR IDENTITY SIGNIFIES IN OUR MODERN WORLD.
